Fur Mites

Appearance of dandruff and often times, missing patches of fur.

What causes fur mites?

Parasites that cover the body of the rabbit.

What are the symptoms of fur mites?

*highly contagious / fast spreading; flakey looking skin or dandruff that usually begins in the shoulder region but spreads across the body, may also have missing patches of fur, often causing the rabbit to scratch –which may cause sores.

What are the medicinal treatments for fur mites?

Quarantine and Sanitize; treat with Ivermectin Injectible solution – 1cc per 10lb body weight; OR Ivermectin optical solution rubbed into fur from base of neck to tail…. If sores are present, apply triple antibiotic ointment on sores before applying any topical treatments.

What are the homeopathic treatments for fur mites ?

Quarantine and Sanitize; rub Listerine Mouthwash into fur, from shoulder to tail (repeat as needed) … If sores are present, apply triple antibiotic ointment on sores before applying any topical treatments.

How can fur mites be prevented?

Keep cages/pens clean, try to keep rabbit away from any other rabbit or rabbit-area which may be contaminated with fur mites.
